LUNAFEST® is a fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their community.
LUNA created LUNAFEST® to support women on a number of levels. Here is our mission: To provide women filmmakers the opportunity to be seen and heard
To empower women by showcasing women’s issues, stories and amazing moments
To support local communities by providing non-profit groups a creative medium to raise funds for local organizations
To provide women with a forum to communicate, share, and inspire social change within their communities
Each event raises funds and awareness for national and local women’s nonprofit organizations. Funds are raised through local business donations, ticket sales, and a silent auction held immediately before the film festival.
Birth and Baby Kneads
Twice a month Birth and Baby Kneads League of Volunteers (LOVs) provides prenatal and new parent education to women in the CHIP of Greater Richmond program. Our monthly meetings offer support, education, special speakers and preparation for birth and parenting. Our program is one year old and we have provided services to over 20 women and children. The LOV's provide support and education as well as birth and postpartum doula services. Each quarter we celebrate our new moms and babes with a social gathering. Last month 13 moms attended our celebration and a great time was had by all.
This program is a true community effort and so many local folks have donated their time, services and expertise to make this possible.
Thank you to:
The Mixing Bowl Bakery for providing delicious cupcakes to our quarterly Celebration of Moms and Babes. Everybody loved them and were so appreciative of your kindness.
Rachel Pustilnik for giving us your time and sharing your expertise on prenatal and postpartum fitness. Thank you for the strollers that you and the Stroller Stride moms donated. The moms really like strolling and singing songs with you.
Gina Kocheny of Virginia Hypnobirthing for sharing your birth relaxation exercises with us. You were such a wonderful speaker and the expecting mommas really liked your workshop. Thank you so much and know that you are always welcome to our group.
Gayle Smith, MD for sharing your knowledge about newborn care and the beginning of life.
Thanks again to the Richmond community for stepping up to help with this project to help women and babies at birth and the beginning of life. With this effort, we can honestly say we are making the birth and baby world a better place for every baby, one little baby at a time.
